| When Europeans settlers came to Boston, they met native people called the Massachusett, or people of the great hills. Our hike Wednesday was on the hills they were talking about, about a half hour south of the city. We did just over 5 miles on a beautiful, but quite hot day. The trail included a few steep climbs and descents and of course my knees were feeling it by the end. The reward for that was one hilltop that gave a beautiful view of the city and Massachusetts Bay. | On Friday after waking up at 10 AM we broke camp and hit the trail. My legs were still pretty beat from the day before. At about the half-way point (maybe 3.5 miles or so) we were near a road and my legs had just about enough punishment. Fortunately Bob was kind enough to agree to drop his pack and go get the car (it only took him about an hour to finish the distance) so we could end the day. I think the suggestion that he would be in front of a cold beer 3 hours earlier may have been a helpful motivation. (Click Read More to see a picture I took of myself relaxing while waiting for my driver.) At least I got a good idea of my current abilities while carrying a pack and I won't get myself in too deep if I go up to Vermont or something. |

| I caught a nasty cold last Friday so I don't feel too bad about not hiking. Back to big hikes on Sunday. |
